The people in Turkey have a delicious array of cultural foods that they eat. The menemen is the name of this traditional scrambled eggs dish in Turkey. Its name originates from the small town in the Province of Izmir. For those of us in the western part of the world, the menemen Turkish scrambled eggs recipe is a fun way to mix up our low carb breakfast routine. And it is delicious and filling enough to mix up our low carb dinner routine as well.

Turkish style scrambled eggs consists of onions, bell peppers, garlic, tomatoes, and spices that are sauteed in olive oil or sunflower oil. The onions are debated among the Turks. According to one survey 51 percent include onions in their menemen recipe. Some say it depends on when it is being served. No onions when it is served for breakfast. And with onions when it is being served for dinner. I made this turkish scrambled eggs recipe with onions. I had a large bag of colorful baby bell peppers in the refrigerator, so this recipe turned out to be just what I needed use a few of them. Ditto on the tomatoes. So, it turns out to be a type of vegetable dish.

In Turkey, this scrambled eggs dish is typically served for breakfast with bread. So, I followed suit and ate the Turkish scrambled eggs with a slice of our delicious healthy low carb bread. In addition, it is often served in the pan in which it is cooked. So, this simple low carb meal is definitely doable for dinner as well.

  • 1/2 c. White Onions (Diced)
  • 1 tsp. Garlic (Minced)
  • 1/3 c. Orange Peppers (Diced)
  • 1/4 c. Red Peppers (Diced)
  • 1/4 c. Green Bell Peppers (Diced)
  • 1/2 tsp. Red Chili Flakes
  • 1/8 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. Mediterranean Sea Salt (Salt to Taste)
  • 1/3 c. Roma Tomatoes (Diced)
  • 4 Eggs
  • 2 tbsp. Olive Oil (for sauteing)


  • Start by chopping all of the vegetables.
  • Then, add olive oil to a medium skillet.
  • Add the onions and saute over medium heat until they soften.
  • Next, add the garlic and fresh orange, red, and green peppers. Saute until tender.
  • Now, season the sauteed vegetables with red chili flakes, black pepper, and salt.
  • And finally add the eggs and the diced tomatoes.
  • Stir gently but continually until the eggs are cooked.
