This hearty keto salisbury steak with mushroom gravy was inspired by the keto ground beef stroganoff. I had assumed that salisbury steak was also a Russian dish. So, I thought I was going on a little trip around the world in my kitchen – but I was wrong. After making it, I discovered that salisbury steak is a dish originating in the United States. Either way, I enjoyed making and eating this flavorful keto salisbury steak with mushroom gravy.

What I liked about it?

This keto salisbury steak with mushroom gravy is flavorsome and filling. Then, it turned out to be a semi-gourmet looking dish that is inexpensive and easy to make. But, it not only looks good, it tastes good too. So, it was a general crowd pleaser for those I was able to share it with. Without any further ado, let’s get to the ingredients.

Keto Salisbury Steak With Mushroom Gravy

The keto salisbury steak is made with ground beef, almond flour, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, an egg and a variety of seasonings. To me, the ketchup and worcestershire sauce is the unique flavor combination that makes this keto salisbury steak dish. With almond flour mixed in with the ground beef, this dish becomes even more filling. And, in case you are wondering, you cannot taste the almond flour.

The other seasonings included black pepper, pink Himalayan sea salt, fresh minced onions, and an Italian seasoning blend. Once you add all of the seasonings together with the meat mixture and egg, it is time to shape the ground beef into small steaks in preparation for cooking on the stove.

The mushroom gravy is made with beef broth, portobello mushrooms, fresh chopped parsley, sliced yellow onions, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, unflavored gelatin and butter. If you are familiar with the flavor of these ingredients, it is enough to make your mouth water. For the gravy, the onions were sliced instead of chopped to make the gravy look even yummier. Then, unflavored gelatin is used as a thickening agent. So, let’s get to the recipe.

  • Prepare a large skillet for cooking the keto salisbury steak. If you want to use olive oil for cooking, add that as well. But, do not turn the stove on yet.
  • Whisk the egg, worcestershire sauce, and ketchup in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Now add thawed ground beef, almond flour, black pepper, sea salt, Italian seasoning, and fresh minced onion to a medium bowl. Use a sturdy spoon to stir the mixture well. Depending on the texture of the ground beef, you may want to just use your hands.
  • Once the dry ingredients have been combined well, add the egg mixture.
  • And lastly, shape the meat mixture into four salisbury steaks.
  • Preheat the skillet on medium heat for a minute or two and then add all four steaks.
  • Cover the skillet with a lid. Flip the salisbury steaks when necessary to cook the opposite side.
  • Once the keto salisbury steak is finished cooking, remove them from the skillet and set aside.


  • Using the same skillet, gently saute the mushrooms and onion in butter.
  • Next, add the beef broth, ketchup, and worcester sauce. Stir and bring the mixture to a light boil.
  • Lastly, stir in the unflavored gelatin.
  • Serve and garnish the keto salisbury steak with fresh chopped parsley.

As the gravy cools down a bit, it will start to thicken. If you prefer a thicker gravy, simply use a little bit more of the unflavored gelatin. Otherwise, enjoy the keto salisbury steak with gravy along with one of your favorite low carb side dishes.
